I have finally merged a patch (for all currently-building
architectures) for this new modular arithmetic strategy as
sbcl-1.0.15.16.  (Free with this patch: better lognot/fixnum).

Nathan, I hope this helps supporting 32-bit modular arithmetic on
x86-64...
