[Samtools-help] Understanding indel format

Hello,

I am trying to understand the Indel output from pileup. In the following example

S4      13      G       */-A    6464    58      0.89%   1       1       39      39      4.074381397545319E-12   1       1       6464    0       58      0       -A

If the reference is G I am trying to understand why is the alternative allele reporting a deletion of A.
