Hello to all in the Salstat Developers List! This message will doubtless come as a surprise bur no, this is not a Spam message but a message to tell you of some exciting (well, I think it is!) news for the Salstat Project. Because of Alan's work and personal commitments, he does not have time at present to work on Salstat. I am in the process of teaching myself Python / wxPython and have decided to take Salstat as my learning project. I have discussed this with Alan, and I have been added as co-Administrator for the project with the possibility I may take over the project in the future somewhere. My initial plans are to bring Salstat uptodate with the current Python 2.5 and wxWidgets / wxPython 2.8 which are in Release Candidate stage and aiming to be released on 11 December 2006 (in time to go into Mac OS/X 10.5 Leopard). I will also be making it work with the current SciPy Numeric module and anything else that needs to be updated. I aim to do this as soon as I can but definitely before the end of February (No, I don't think it will take nearly that long) as that is when I go back to Uni. At that point, I aim to do a release. Post release, I want to start adding functionality and I am open to suggestions from all of you. I have not started thinking what I wish to add but my general plan is to make it something that can be used at an undergraduate course level of statistics (I am a mature age, part time Bachelor of Information Technology student, about half way through, majoring in Bioinformatics.) I have home access to a Mac Pro with OS/X 10.4.8, Win XP Pro on my Laptop, and Gentoo and Ubuntu Linux on other machines. I look forward to any ideas and suggestions you all have. There is probably no point in multiple of us doing the rejuvenation step but after that, I am open to anyone wanting to contribute :-) I have started fixing some of the broken links on the website and will do more as time permits. Cheers and tell me what you would like to see in Salstat in the future! :-D MarkL |
