Welcome to the list. I have just got it started. At the moment I have been working 12 hour shifts 6 days a week at my day job. I expect that to last into september. Then I will be getting things going a bit more. Do you use linux on your palm pilot? ;-) I hope that eventually you will find this package quite useful. The purpose is not to replace the equipment you have onboard, to enhance it by providing a common interface. If you use it with a laptop I hope to be able to have it connect to home-base. Still in the developement/dreaming stage. I hope you stick around. Chuck Busby sca...@ho... |

I've just joined the list and I'm wondering how active it is? I'm a sailer and boat owner in Melbourne, Australia. I don't currently use a computer on the boat, but do take the palm pilot aboard. I'm not sure if I can see a great deal of benefit in a floating laptop as opposed to my chart plotter gps, but I'd be interested to see what others think. One thing I think might be interesting is a low power embedded linux machine, to monitor the operations of the boat. The PC would be taken home and plugged into a PC at home to assist in analysing the information gathered on speed and course, in comparison to wind speed/direction, fuel usage, and anything else that could be measured. This could then be used as part of a technical boat log, to access the efficiency of sails, engine, crew skill and whatever else might change over time? Comments? Oh, I've also used palm applications to predict tides and plot courses across multiple charts by plotting a mid point along a straight line course. Very convenient on the palm, but could be useful on my linux box too? |

While on the way to discovering this project (by typing sail.sourceforge.net!) I came across a commercial site with an interesting application running on a Red Hat server in New Zealand. The web page appears last modified on 15-Jan-2001 and has a Title of "Test Page for SUPER SAIL FLOW ZOPE STUFF on Red Hat Linux". Of course we may never see what is running behind this web page front end, but I found this an interesting example of what can be done. The LOGIN failed to do anything when I tried and it points to http://www.sailflow.co.nz/zope/sailflow/test1, which may mean this site is perpetually in test mode. It is located at http://www.sailflow.co.nz Ed Hart |
