Is there a way to keep the windows thumbnails from displaying the alpha as transparency /at all? The files (dds) I am working with are later fed into a game engine which uses the alpha channel as specularity instead of transparency. Thanks
The alpha is just a channel when it comes to making videogame materials; sometimes it's used as transparency sometimes it's used for other information. Essentially is there way to not figure in the alpha channel when it comes to displaying DDS files (or all files) in the Windows Preview?

Ah, you meant background squares. What's you want instead? Solid color? SageThumbs has used solid white in previous versions but was so difficult to distinguish between white background and white of image itself and many users asked for squares.

Personally, I'd rather there was an option to not figure in the image's alpha layer as part of the preview render. If you look at the screenshot the image while in Photoshop is what I would want for window preview, if possible. Granted the usual use of the alpha is for transparency, but not always.

Alpha is not just a channel used in video games. It is the layer that is transparent. It is used in web designing, and photo editing. It's the 4th one in RGBA (red, green, blue, alpha). Anyways, I have this exact problem. Anyways, Alpha is always the transparency layer, it just is the level of transparency that can be different. Think of the transparency as just another color, and it makes al ittle more sense. I need my thumbnails to display images exactly how they are supposed to display, not any other way. This new problem of them displaying with some stupid white background renders the software completely useless :(

Your game engine is very weird, if that is the case. It is probably done that way because the developers didn't know how to make it work otherwise. When you do 3D modelling, specular layers are called specular. They obviously are not doing something that others do.

What meant under "display transparency"? It is... em... a transparent.

Can you draw a "screenshot" (in the MS Paint for example) with desired view of "transparency"?

"Alpha is always the transparency layer" No it's not.

Many game developers use that channel in such a way.

I Agree, it's better to have an option so that user can disable / enable the alpha channel in thumbnail
