It happened after I had installed and HAD TO uninstalled your "SageThumbs" software.

I had a "very specific" .ico file (Windows icon file) that was TRANSPARENT/EMPTY (an empty transparent icon image), and that I used for a very specific type of "text file" so that I could add a file anywhere within a folder, and that file would only display it's NAME without any icon (or a completely transparent icon if you prefer). Very handy to put comments within folders.

Now this specific completely transparent .ico file (Windows icon file) and the files using this icon as an "Explorer icon display" are all displayed with a BLACK SQUARE ICON instead of being displayed with NOTHING (a transparent icon).

I've tried every trick up my sleeves even editing the Registry to try to restore that previous COMPLETELY TRANSPARENT icon appearance as TRANSPARENT, but I've been totally unsuccessful so far, they always displays as BLACK SQUARE ICONS (icon and files associated with that transparent icon.

You modify the behavior of icons in Windows, but the UNINSTALL doesn't restore Windows original icons behavior.
Please, update your UNINSTALL PROCEDURE in order to leave Windows INTACT after uninstallation of your software, and send it to me.

The version which had been installed then uninstalled was "SageThumbs v2.0.0.23".

Thank you for the help.

Sorry to hear that this is happening. Could you please send me your OS version?

By the way, you can try the system utility cleanmgr.exe to clear the Explorer cache if the black squares are "stuck" in it.

I probably repeatedly cleared the Explorer Cache hundreds of times without result.
The OS is "Windows 10 Pro build 19045.3693" with "Experience Pack 1000.19053.1000.0".
The problem is linked with a Registry keys cross referencing which is broken by your installation procedure but which isn't restored to original after uninstall.

You got to trace exactly what you modify in the registry and how you modify it in order to re-write an uninstall procedure and restore original standard Windows 10 parameters.

My Windows 10 system is now permanently altered by your software mods, but you should be able to pinpoint the issue by using a freshly installed Windows 10 Pro system and check what happens during install and after uninstall.

I only have 1 system with all my tools, I can't destroy everything and restart from scratch, I need to produce daily work, so, you need to come up with a RELIABLE "restore to original" solution.

      Thank you so much.

The attached files contain the original ico and png settings from a freshly installed Windows 10. Unzip and install them.

The png is used inside the ico and can also be affected.
