Hello, my AI nor PDF thumbnails won't show in Windows Explorer. I am using Windows 10 64 bit version 1709 build 16299.192.
I installed both SageThumbs 2.0.0.23, and Ghostscript 64 bit and Ghostscript 8.54. AI files in checked in the SageThumbs options, I have no SageThumbs options for PDF on right-click. I have the AI thumbnails set at 200MB just because it wasn't working. PSD and EPS files show thumbnails fine. Can you help please? Thank you very much!

This may not be super-helpful, but thought I'd chip in with my similar 'symptoms' in case the root cause is the same.
On my system (Windows 10, 64bit), some AI and PSD files are previewed, but not all. After a bit of testing, I found that it depends on the 'compatibility' that is used when saving the file. For example, an AI file in Illustrator, if saved with compatibility of Illustrator CC, will not preview via SageThumbs. However, if this is knocked back a bit to, for example, Illustrator CS4, it will preview the AI file.
Given this, I suspect the root cause is GhostScript not having compatiblity with newer versions. This also seems to apply to PDF files unfortunately.
Cheers,
Andy
Thank you Andy. I do not have control over many of the files, or how they were saved unfortunately. I may be able to open and resave with compatibility changes. But that would be a real pain with so many now and in the future. I wish the developer would respond. I really don't want to resort to another program, as I had trouble with it on my other computer. But Ghostscript is on version 9.22 and it looks like the developer has maybe left since there has been no updates in such a long time. I tried installing the newest Ghostscript but that just broke everything, so I uninstalled. Thanks for giving your input! I guess I will wait around to see if the developer responds and hope for the best.
Hopefully the developer will respond Gina - and if I find out anything else, I'll post-up here. Perhaps try the compatbility changes and see if that works, might help narrow down the issue.
Cheers,
Andy
fwiw, I'm seeing the same thing. I haven't extensively worked out which AI files work and which don't - in terms of what variable makes them not work anymore.
I've noticed that when I create a new document, or DL an illustrator file, open and edit it (in AICC) then save to the defult configuration, it no longer shows the preview.
I've tried saving backwrd compatible files from CS6 to CS2, but no dice.
Right click on icon, select SageThumbs > SageThumbs Options, then increase "maximum file size of image file" to larger than the PSD or AI that you have a problem with.
I am also having this issue. I am using Illustrator and Photoshop CC.....I'm not going to install CS4. When will this be fixed for CC?
This really need fixing. Would be great to see this fixed.
Antonio Freixas' - Thank you! Your suggestion worked perfectly for me with .psd files. Max size was set to 10mb, I've set it to 500mb, everything shows up now :)
I searched through the Windows 10 registry and can't find where ghostscript is used by SageThumbs, but maybe .ai/.psd for SageThumbs is linked somewhere external to the registry?
If the problem is related to file version like Andy Wallace discovered, then can we at least get some sort of message somewhere that this is the case? There doesn't seem to be any visibility to the user for the reasons a thumbnail isn't available.
