I found a workaround, but not an absolute solution. I disabled all filetypes in sagethumbs except PSDs (only one I need atm), then used cleanmgr and deleted all thumbnails, restarted explorer and transparency is back.

The attached files contain the original ico and png settings from a freshly installed Windows 10. Unzip and install them. The png is used inside the ico and can also be affected.

I probably repeatedly cleared the Explorer Cache hundreds of times without result. The OS is "Windows 10 Pro build 19045.3693" with "Experience Pack 1000.19053.1000.0". The problem is linked with a Registry keys cross referencing which is broken by your installation procedure but which isn't restored to original after uninstall. You got to trace exactly what you modify in the registry and how you modify it in order to re-write an uninstall procedure and restore original standard Windows 10 parameters....

I just solved my issue with PNG's not showing a thumbnail. I've been trying to figure it out FOREVER! I opened up the SageThumb options and checked the PNG's. and clicked the OK button. It went through the Applying Settings stage and Boom, all my PNG thumbs are back. (I had a folder open so I could watch them show back up after the Apply Settings process finished.) I thought I had done this already...in fact I'm positive I had, multiple times. But here's what happens... After I checked the PNG box...

I'm facing the same problem. Tried installing xnview, also xnview 32 & 64. Tried manually copyng the openexr.dll. I am having the same issue. Windows 10. All E0 JPGs plus E1 jpgs missing EXIF data show as white paper. Is it trying to load JPG thumbnail from the EXIF data then crashes if none is found?

The SageThumbs is just a shell for anymore not updated and not supported graphics library - GFL Library. So image format compatibility questions has not point discussing here. Anyway I can try to confirm a compatibility issue if you provide a sample problem .ai-file.

To be honest, that can't be true. For psd files it is a matter of the size. Small files ~500kb do have a thumbnail, larger files ~100MB don't have. Of course the files need to be synced locally and yes, my files are physically saved on a local drive and are not "ghosts". If I copy a new file from another folder (with a thumbnail generated) into the OneDrive synced folder, the thumbnail disappears shortly after.

In my humble opinion OneDrive uses files-on-demand technique, files without thumbnails are ghost files, has no file content on disk, so no thumbnails, sorry.

Another information : the problem occurs on One Drive but not on Google Drive. As you can see on this printscreen, same files, all synchronised with the clouds but the one on Google Drive are visibles, the ones on One Drive not.

I searched through the Windows 10 registry and can't find where ghostscript is used by SageThumbs, but maybe .ai/.psd for SageThumbs is linked somewhere external to the registry? If the problem is related to file version like Andy Wallace discovered, then can we at least get some sort of message somewhere that this is the case? There doesn't seem to be any visibility to the user for the reasons a thumbnail isn't available.

This worked for me. This seems to be related to maximum file size of thumbnail. In sage thumbs options select "Prefer image file embeded thumbnails". Set file size larger than your largest PSD. I set mine to 500mb, after all it's only going to use what it needs.
