Replay TV Hard Disk Failure (Oh NO!)

I think my hard drive has failed in my Replay TV.  I came to this site via a search engine to see if there is some way I can reformat a new drive with the Replay OS without having to do an image copy from a good Replay drive.  I am almost sure the drive has crashed in the RTV because it starts to boot and on the TV it says "Please Wait.." (this message will not go away).  And then after about 10 seconds you hear that dreaded grinding of the R/W servo trying to find some of the tracks and sectors.
    Any Thoughts

I just experienced the same thing on my Panasonic PV-HS1000 (20G).  It came very suddenly.  I would liek to upgrade the HD to a 40G Maxtor drive which I have already.  Are all the programs recorded lost?
Is their any method of recovery?

I have the EXACT same problem with my 4000. it has a stock 80gb maxtor that has bit the bullet... I bought a wd 160gb which even with the beta only shows 136gb but I would be MORE than happy with that if I could only get the os off of the 80 gb.  called replaytv they said since I am 2 months out of warranty they will ship me a reconditioned one but non warranty items won't be shipped until January, they come with only a 90 day warranty and it costs $200.00 this is the SECOND replay tv drive I had die on me, the other is in an old one ... forget the model number but it sits on a shelf somewhere. :)  If anyone can get me the os for the 4000 i would greatly apprieciate it!
