rsyslog 6.3.3 (devel) released

This is a very important milestone release. It features the new config parser and thus provides the basis for a more intuitive config format. With 6.3.3 there are already some enhancements to the format. However, more changes will come up with the next minor releases. For details, please check this link:

http://www.rsyslog.com/rsyslog-6-3-3-config-format-improvements/

It is worth noting that the performance of script-based filters ("if ...
then") has notable been improved. Preliminary benchmarks show an improvement of at least a factor of three (more detailed benchmarks will be done after the new scoped object statements have been introduced).... read more

This release offers better systemd integration as well as better support for chrooted environments by supporting better timestamps in these environments. It also contains a number of important bug fixes.
Upgrading to this release is strongly recommended for users of the v5-devel branch.

Remeber that v5-devel receives mostly minor and/or very urgent improvements. The “real” development takes place in v6, which already offers features not found in v5.... read more

rsyslog 5.9.0 (devel) released

This version starts a new development branch for version v5 which brings some new, not-so-intrusive features. This release includes enhancements for imfile, support for TCP KEEP ALIVE and a way to name actions (primarily for impstats).

Note that the main development activity is still focused at version 6.
So this release is only for those interested in the minor enhancements to v5.

rsyslog 6.1.8 (beta) released

This release begins the first beta branch for the v6 branch of rsyslog.

Note that the 6.1.7 version, released roughly a month ago was not functionally enhanced since then. We already begun a new branch that will become 6.3.0. So technically, 6.1.7 can be considered beta as well.

As such, we expect a quicker than usual beta cycle for version 6.1.

This release imports some bug fixes done to older versions as well as some minor enhancements (not affecting stability). An update to this version is useful for users of the 6.1 versions, but if you experience no problems, it the update is not urgent.... read more

rsyslog 6.1.7 (v6-devel) released

Version 6.1.7 introduces syslog message classification via easy to create normalization rulebases. This functionality is build on top of liblognorm and libee and so rulebases can be shared with other tools that support liblognorm (like sagan). Also, we considerably speeded up TLS syslog message forwarding. This release also contains a number of important bug fixes.

Documentation on using log normalization and classification in rsyslog is currently sparse and being extended. We expect to have guides for important concepts available on www.rsyslog.com during the next week.... read more

rsyslog 5.7.9 (v5-beta) released

We have just released rsyslog 5.7.9, the new v5-beta.

This is primarily a bug-fixing release with a small enhancement handling a very uncommon case (rsyslog build on newer kernel and executed on older one). This probably is the last 5.7 release before the beginning of the new stable 5.8 versions.

PLEASE NOTE that this version contains fixes which are not yet part of v5-stable. Especially the fix for bug 236 (failover scenario) is rather big and it has some potential for regressions. So we decided to release v5-beta first, check the feedback, and only after that release the updated v5-stable. As such, feedback would be deeply appreciated (even more than usually ;)).... read more

rsyslog 6.1.5 (devel) released

We have just released rsyslog 6.1.5, the new v6-devel.
This is both a stability and a performance enhancement release. Most importantly, imtcp was enhanced to support a small number of worker threads for imtcp processing. This will increase overall processing performance for high-end environments. Stability has improved by including a number of important patches, some of which fix abort conditions.
