Bugs item #1236526, was opened at 2005-07-12 07:36 Message generated for change (Comment added) made by scumbies You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=615248&aid=1236526&group_id=96589 Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Submitted By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Doesn't recover from feed error on startup Initial Comment: On startup I get the following error message: --------------------------- RSS Bandit 1.3.0.29 --------------------------- The feed file was invalid. Please have a look to the file at 'C:\Documents and Settings\MyName\Application Data\RssBandit\error.log' for detailed information about the error occured. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- That is fine - the feed has an error in it. However, I expect the app to handle it gracefully and proceed with the other feeds. Instead it stops there and fails to load the treeview. If I select a treeview item I get: --------------------------- RSS Bandit 1.3.0.29 --------------------------- Sorry, but an error occured: 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.' --------------------------- OK --------------------------- Note: If I download my last feed upload from my server it handles it fine. It is just a problem on startup. === General Information RSS Bandit 1.3.0.29 OS Version: Microsoft Windows NT 5.1.2600.0 Framework Version: .NET CLR v1.1.4322 Additonal Info: ExceptionManager.MachineName: MYNAME ExceptionManager.TimeStamp: 12/07/05 08:25:14 ExceptionManager.FullName: Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.ExceptionManagement, Version=1.0.1521.25102, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null ExceptionManager.AppDomainName: RSSBandit.exe ExceptionManager.ThreadIdentity: ExceptionManager.WindowsIdentity: MYDOMAIN\MYNAME Exception Information System.Xml.Schema.XmlSchemaException: The 'http://www.25hoursaday.com/2004/RSSBandit/feed s/:link' element has an invalid value according to its data type. If just one blog "goes down" I cannot start RSSBandit successfully. I have to download my last upload of feeds (kiss goodbye to any changes since then) and then delete the offending feed. But I read quite a few bugs and my experience is that peoples' blogs go down from time to time. I don't want that to take down RSSBandit - and I also don't want to have to remove the feed. I want it to just flag the problem in "Feed Errors" as it is supposed to and carry on doing it's job. Eventually when the blog comes back online I can carry on reading it. For now, I would have to make a note of the feed somewhere and keep monitoring it until it comes back and then add it back into RSSBandit. If this isn't fixed I fear I can't use RSSBandit anymore - which is a crying shame because it is (apart from this bug) the best RSS aggregator I have found. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Will R (herky05) Date: 2005-07-17 15:43 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1314063 I have the same problem after adding a Microsoft newsgroup feed "Most Active CMS Discussion".
