I also don't understand how a file system using Unix semantics could hard link between different filesystems (let alone different hard disks). Or how deleting one hard link would affect another hard link. I'm not sure whether turning it off would help, but it is something you could experiment with, if you're into experimentation. You could send some more information to the list, like the output of these commands: mount df /private/etc /Volumes/mirror/backup/daily.0/private/etc ls -li /private/etc/hosts ls -li /Volumes/mirror/backup/daily.0/private/etc/hosts tail -20 /var/log/rsnapshot I'm assuming you have a file called /private/etc/hosts.
