Well, GTK doesn't use gconf. Instead, it gets the setting from the
XSettings manager. If you were running ROX-Session, that would be it, and
it would in turn get the setting from Choices/ROX-Session/Options.

If you're running GNOME's XSettings manager, I guess it gets the key from
gconf, and makes it available as an XSetting. Presumably you were running
it at some point, or they gconf key wouldn't have been created?
