I have the feeling that doing that for each directory opening will bloat the thing. How about checking the mount table file modification time and doing the first option above for new partitions? Though I know the time thing won't work on all systems. > - Both of the above (probably best!) Yes. Other suggestions: - A 'show hidden' button on the toolbar. This would be very useful IMO. - Remembering the large and small display options, these can be different and a pain to restore when you go from large to small and vice-versa using the toolbar buttons. Clicking "Large, With..." and "Small, With..." menu entries should select the appropriate display mode without any extra info i.e. only the icon and file name, or alternatively add an option 'none' in the 'with' submenus.
