Hey, there! A simple shell script app could do the trick as well. Only drawback: it doesn't work virtual-only and eats a lot of diskspace on big archives. This shell script just has to find out which packer to use, create a temporary directory, extract the archive into it and open the directory with rox. If you don't know how to do this yourself, just ask and we'll have whipped it up in an hour or so. About virtual file systems: Since FUSE is Linux-only, gnome-vfs is restricted on gnome-apps and AVFS is deprecated, the best we can do is either wait for or enforce the creation of the planned DVFS (Desktop Virtual File System) that seems to have a hard time escaping the planning state (to be found on freedesktop.org).
