Hello all, I've been a user of Rosegarden over the years, and one bit of functionality I'd love to see in it is linked segments or shallow segment copies or whatever they should be called. I think in Cakewalk 8ish they used to be called linked clips or something like that. From the looks of the feature request list, it looks like this has been requested a number of times, http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1416995&group_id=4932&atid=354932 and http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2876044&group_id=4932&atid=354932 are two mentions of it. In my day job I'm a C++ developer working on an interior design desktop application, so I have general C++ and development skills, but I have no previous experience with audio/midi code development or with the Rosegarden source code. I have some experience with Qt, but not in great depth. My question is, is implementing this feature something that someone like myself working on it in my spare time would be able to accomplish in any reasonable timescale, or would I be biting off more than I could chew? I very much like Rosegarden, and I want to broaden my Qt, audio and linux programming skills (in my day job often I have to program with MFC!! aarrgh!), so I have some enthusiasm toward achieving it. I know that Rosegarden already is able to perform deep copies of midi segments, and also can repeat segments which acts like a linked copy in many respects. If anyone has any suggestions as to generally how one might go about implementing this feature, all suggestions gratefully received. In the meantime, I'll dive on in to the source and the doxygen docs and see what I find. Cheers, Ian. |
