Well, I regard myself as a 'real' user, and I have found Rosegarden's audio capabilities very useful indeed. I have two particular circumstances where I use it. The first is where I am mixing a vocal track with supporting MIDI instrumentation. Even with the best efforts amateurs (like me) sing with variable timing, pitch and clarity. I don't like the idea of messing with the vocal track itself, but a close-matched instrument playing the melody line can do a great deal to support/mask problems. This means occasionally editing individual notes in the matrix editor. I have even (shock-horror) moved and/or suppressed percussion hits so they don't jar. Occasionally I get involved with collaborations - ones that use an, um, different, operating system. It is not uncommon for a file claimed to be 120BPM to end up going noticeably out of sync. Again, without altering the audio it is a relatively simple matter to nudge my MIDI additions so they line up. I have tried this working just in the audio field and it's a nightmare, especially when you want to add a dozen tracks, but like me are so deformed as to only have two hands. If further work is going to be performed by others later on, then I set a single click alignment pulse, and record each individual track including this pulse, confident that when it reaches the other end people can put all the tracks together perfectly aligned.
