I just tried this myself, and the one thing about a 10-bar default composition that's really irritating is the way the automatic expansion takes us back to the old behavior from years back, before we had the really refined autoscroll feature. You draw your segment to bar 11, 12, etc., and then when you finally hit the right edge of the screen, you have to "pump" the mouse to get the segment and the canvas to expand. If your composition starts off at 100 bars, you get 100 bars of room where it will just zip along scrolling and drawing with you before you run into this irritating phenomenon. So no, I don't think I'd vote for a default 10 bar composition. Stopping playback within some distance of the end of the last note event is probably sensible enough though. Definitely not anything I would spend time investigating how to get done, and definitely a patch I would accept, or something I'd be happy to see some other developer do. -- D. Michael McIntyre |
