Category: None Group: None Status: Open Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Brunetton (brunetton) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: One cursor instead of two ! Initial Comment: I really do not understand why rosegarden use two cursors : the insertion cursor and the playback cursor. It's a loose of time always clicking to the two buttons "insertion --> playback" and "playback --> insertion". Even if I assigned keyboard shortcuts to that actions, it's quite boring. All softwares that propose users to playback and insert things have only one cursor, and it's alway efficient. Maybe this is usefull for that : User playback from bar 5 to bar 10. The playback cursor is at 10. If he wants to continue playing from 10, he could move the insertion cursor to the playback cursor. If he wants to playback again, he moves the playback cursor to the insertion one. I understand. BUT, many professional video editing softwares uses that mechanism (with one unique cursor) : - SPACE --> start playback from 5 ** playing ** - SPACE --> stop and do not move (so, cursor is then at the position when user pressed space) - ENTER --> stop and rewind to initial position (cursor is then at 5 again, to perform a other playback) If the reason is not that one, I don't understand. The fact is that I propose to remove that two cursors and keep only one. Or give us an option that always synchronize cursors (so, minor chcanges to code) and only draw one of them. Thanks for reading. Mabe should I post on the devel mailing list ? I don't know. It is such a large key and can be inadvertently pressed while trying to accomplish another task. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Chris Cannam (cannam) Date: 2006-10-22 06:51 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=13489 The reasons for having more than one cursor are mostly bound up with the notation view, and the matrix view only inherits this design for consistency (of a sort). In the notation editor, of course the insert cursor has a limited "resolution" (it snaps to the locations of notes); and in both editors of course the playback pointer may be outside the range of the segment being edited, much of the time. It is a rather inelegant solution though. By all means post on rg-devel about this sort of thing -- it's perfectly acceptable to do both (post on rg-devel and open feature requests or bug reports). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=354932&aid=1581889&group_id=4932 |
