So if I have a MidiSport 2x2 connected via USB, do I have two MIDI=20 ports with one input and one output each? Alternatively: Attached to this machine right now I have an an=20 external MIDI synth that's plugged in via a cable with two MIDI plugs=20 on one end (it obviously only uses one of them) and one joystick-type=20 plug on the other, plugged in to the back of the soundcard (the=20 joystick socket on the soundcard is the only physical MIDI connection=20 on the computer). I also have a MIDI keyboard plugged directly into=20 a USB socket (it comes with its own cable for that purpose), and an=20 iiwusynth softsynth. How many ports does that make? Are there ports=20 associated with the extra plug on the MIDI cable that I'm not using? You see, while I think that what you're describing could make=20 intuitive sense if you have a row of MIDI devices all plugged into=20 consecutive sockets on the same interface, I find it hard to get any=20 sort of feel for what constitutes a port on a varied (though simple)=20 setup like this, or indeed why it should make any difference which=20 port a particular device is connected to.
