Development is still on the back burner for this project. But I have managed to gather some resources.
Google provides height maps from Google Earth, which solves a lot of my mapping issues. (Thanks Google). But now I'll still have to think of a solution to render these colossal maps.
Other than that, I only have time to tinker on this bit by bit... there's still so much work to be done.
Cheers,
J.R.
The original plan was to have a 2D and a 3D version so that the application is can run on a vast amount of computers. But it seems to run a XNA Developed application will require 3D capability anyway.
The plan for the 2D version was to use a technique called Isometric Engine. Diablo II uses this. Although I found a great source on this, http://www.xnaresources.com/default.asp?page=TUTORIALS
, there's no point to going down that road any further.... read more
The development of this project is quite slow at the moment, even though it really is quite simple. The first version of the Main Menu is built, and the 2D version's 'engine' seems to be working just fine. (Yes, this will be an option in the application).
The features between the 2D version and the 3D version is similar, so I'm focusing on the 2D version to get everything in place before building the 3D version.... read more
The idea for this project has been on my heart since September. And only now, after I failed to develop it inside of Blender 3D (would have been nice), I opened this, SourceForge project. There's been some discussion around the project on myBroadband.
I'm planning on rendering some concept screenshots and then I'll write a better discription and features summary.
