Hi.

It seems that the default rkhunter.conf diverges from defaults in (at least) the following option:

AUTO_X_DETECT=1 (even though it's default is documented to be 0)

Any reason for that?

Cheers,
Chris.

I suspect it was historical really (although I wrote it). The use of X is not likely on a server, which is where rkhunter is typically expected to be run. So the default makes sense. However, most admins access servers via SSH (or some means) rather than directly on a console, and in those cases may well be running X. So, in those cases, which may be the majority, RKH should detect X. Therefore, the changed default in rkhunter.conf makes sense.

I suspect the same is true for any other options. When coding an option one default makes sense in some cases, another default makes sens ein other cases. So all we can do is set a default, and then set the option value to another value in the config file. A case of not being able to satisfy all users with just one default value.
