Rhythmdrill

Welkom bij - welcome at

Rhythmdrill

Rhythmdrill is a small java application to train/drill the reading of musical rhythms.

The application

  • shows a random rhythm,
  • lets you hear a metronome (if wanted).
  • Gives all kinds of visual indications and hints (if wanted).
  • Checks the duration of the note
  • Lets the user to be off a little bit (the key can be pressed a little early or late and doesn't need to be the exact time of the note).

The user can tap the rhythm

  • using any key.
  • using any mouse button.

I personally prefer ticking the rhythm on a wacom tablet.

I found that jalmus had a some functionality like this, but I noticed some flaws I couldn't fix easily: It didn't check the length of the notes; I found it very hard to hit the keys at the exact right time (I had the impression I had to hit the key a little earlier than what I heard) and I had the impression the visual metronome was behind the sound.

*Notice: rhythmdrill doesn't dare to match the functionality jalmus provides.
Rhythmdrill does not support midi devices, and only lets the user exercise reading rhythms.
