Hello,
I try to get my WLAN up and running on my Acer
Travelmate 291LMi. I use
- SuSE 9.1
- ipw2100 driver
When I start WLAN dmesg says "associated" but
immediately after that it says "Association lost" and "RF
Kill state changed to radio OFF".
I'm not sure whether
- the driver does not yet work correctly
or
- the radio switch is actually turned off.
I checked according to the README.ipw2100 and found
out that the notebook has "Insyde Software MobilePRO
BIOS" which is supposedly compatible to Packard Bell.
I tried running the module "pbe5". dmesg says:
May 11 21:57:11 linux kernel: pbe5: Radio turned ON
but it has no effect on the WLAN.
(Of course I turned the physical switch to ON.)
Of course, I would like to help. What do I need to do?

This is probably a new software switch type. Could you find
out which program activates the wireless radio in windows
and provide it so that people can disassemble it? You should
be looking for something like wbutton.exe, wbutton.sys,
*hk*.exe, *hk*.sys. My PBE5 had just an icon.exe executable
which stayed in the system tray and displayed a cross when i
deactivated the wireless with the Fn+F1 combination.
