0.3.0 has been released. I'm almost calling the main library done at this point. There are a few things that need to be added (a few other rendering options, better control system) and a bunch that need to be tweaked, but in general, I think it's usable now. Originally I was planning to start working up a few tutorials. However, other things have come up, and I basically have to just make something out of this. Which I'm going to do. However, it's not going to be open-source, at least, not for now. In any case. I'll keep working on this project soon, but for now, I'm calling it as done as it's going to get for a while. -Zorba |

I've actually got a working build right now, but I'm holding off releasing it until I get a few other things together, namely the drawing of rectangles and polys and a few other primitives. Once that's done, I'm seriously considering writing a few tutorials and doing some documentation. We shall see :) Stay tuned. -Zorba |

refactored some stuff. moved file ownership to the modules. the manager now only does the actual dispatching. removed the init system, added a more efficient one. will be ripping apart the wrapped soon to give the manager some more info. Font's green because HSL isn't working (started) yet. Give it time. Computer gets packed tomorrow, gets unpacked once I figure out just what the fuck I'm doing with my life, where I'm going to be spending the next year, and get it mailed there. Retro on hold 'till then. cya in a week or two maybe. -Zorba |

*nods* one of my friends was trying to get it working with some Windows GCC flavor - worked all the errors out except a few unavoidable problems with the library. Note that those fixes will be in the next version, which is scheduled for when I improve the init system and get the HSL working. (hopefully a day or two at most.) -Zorba ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nathan Smith" <whi...@ya...> To: <ret...@li...> Sent: Monday, January 21, 2002 8:52 PM Subject: [retro-devel] compiling with mingw32 > heh I found out why those last error came from.. its the stdc++ library > with mingw32... its bust. heh I found out why those last error came from.. its the stdc++ library with mingw32... its bust. However there is a replacement library. I'm going to try that. The only other opinion is to get the experimental version of mingw32 that has gcc 3.1 (instead of the normal gcc 2.9.8), However this has other problems since its a total rewrite, and still quite unstable (from what I've heard anyway). I can't remember who it was that wanted me to set it up so hitting reply replied to the list automatically (yes, out of you two :P), but it doesn't seem to be possible with Sourceforge lists, due to it being disabled. Grah. For IMHO bogus reasons, but it's not my decision. On the other hand, someday I might get away from Sourceforge, but not for now, I need the publicity and services ;) Anyway. been hanging out with friends for a few days, oughta get back to programming this week. Next thing is a better initialization system and getting the HSL working for fonts. -Ben |

yeah, it is a mess. At the moment all the hierarchy is done via filenames and the project file. I might clean those up in the future, but it's not high on my list right now. Really, the entire directory *is* source right now, and it's easy to see what's .h and what's .cpp. BTW, if you get any compiler errors, lemme know and I'll see what needs fixing. It's only been compiled on MSVC++6 and MSVC.NET AFAIK. -Zorba ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nathan Smith" <whi...@ya...> To: <ret...@li...> Sent: Wednesday, January 16, 2002 1:13 AM Subject: [retro-devel] directory structure > well its a mess in there... > might I suggest at the very min.. to have a src directory with all the .cpp > files and a include for the .h files.. even then it should be broken down > more... > > I have mingw32 (gcc for windows), so I'm trying to get it to compile.. if I > get it going I'll send you my makefile. Hrm. Unfortunately, getting the reply-to working is probably going to require me to figure out my admin password, which I seem to have lost . . . well, they'll send me a reminder email in a month or so, and I'll change it then. I'm tempted to say that, while the interface may change, it'll just be additions - that as it stands, I won't be changing or removing any of the current stuff. However you probably don't want to believe me :P Actually, now that I think about it, I'm wrong, the control system is going to go through a few more changes. So . . . possibly soon, actually. -Zorba ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeyasankar Kottalam" <je...@ho...> To: <ret...@li...> Sent: Tuesday, January 15, 2002 6:38 PM Subject: Re: [retro-devel] Release, and first message > > > > > >Now, as for the rest, there are all of three people on this mailing list > >now > >and I'm one of them. well its a mess in there... might I suggest at the very min.. to have a src directory with all the .cpp files and a include for the .h files.. even then it should be broken down more... I have mingw32 (gcc for windows), so I'm trying to get it to compile.. if I get it going I'll send you my makefile. I had to go get the dx8 sdk + the mingw32 export libraries, since I was still using dx7, so as soon as that is done I'll give it another go. Nathan Smith www.geocities.com/white_door |

I'm interested in this project for how I can use it to provide a option for hardware acceration to users of my rpg with a 3d card.. so I'll have to see about if I can get the software, 2d hardware, and 3d hardware to all work together.. ;) I'm only really interested in the graphics routines with this project.. So I'll give the download a play with.. and report any bugs I find or ideas I have. (don't count on a quick respose, I'm in the middle of rewriting the script compiler.. ;) >I'm more interested in that mysterious third person. *scary music plays* heh yeah.. Also, you should make it so that the "Reply-To" address is the list instead of the author of the mail. -Jey Kottalam |

First, what I just posted on the project page itself: Okay, yes, I suck, I admit that. I said we'd have a release about a week ago and we didn't. Well, instead, we have a release now, and if anyone was really paying attention to this project I'm sure they'd be quite happy with it. I've finally got the hardware rendering working. Which also means full alpha and so forth. I've started making a few modifications to the file manager because I realized a decision I made before was pretty stupid, and they're basically done, I just need to add a bit more code to test the thing out. I have also gone into the project information and changed it to "Alpha" status. We're not in pre-alpha anymore folks, this thing's usable and the code is even somewhat stable. Next projects: first, fix up the code so it works well. Just a little more. And test it out. I'll be making a new font class (you can see the beginnings of it in this release) that supports proportional spacing. And I'll be getting rid of the old one, and the entire "raw files" concept, then beefing up the file manager a bit so it loads files serially instead of in parallel. Then, documentation. And we'll see what happens after that. ---- Now, as for the rest, there are all of three people on this mailing list now and I'm one of them. Either of you have any suggestions for how I'm running this project? Or want to help? ;) (okay, I'm not holding my breath on that one.) Feel free to ask questions on here if you ever get the insane urge to browse the source. I mean, hey, that's what this place is for. -Ben |
