Hi: I am looking for a tool that I can remotely gather system vitals such as CPU, memory, hard drive space for computers over the network. And I came across your tool on sourceforge. I dled the tool and used both command line and through GUI, but I am unable to establish a connection to the remote computer. Here is the error I see in the log files:

8/20/2012 12:37:02 PM Failed to bind data: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))

I also included the domain in front of the username but still same result. Is there any settings that I missed? Please help! Thanks.

    Hi y17chen,

can you please provide me the complete logifle, so I'm able to check this out.
    Just a few questions:
1.) Are you or the user and password you entered has local admin rights on the remote system?
2.) Is the firewall local and remote set to allow WMI-Requests

    Regards

    Seranor

    I'm getting a nearly identical error. :-(

      Hi LibertyGuy,

the above Error Message indicates that the used account doesn't have the needed rights. So please make sure:
1.) If your target computer is part of a windows domain (Active Directory), please make sure you entered a user with local administrative credentials on the target computer. You do not have to use DOMAIN\USER, rPE checks if the target is part of a domain and put the domain name automatically.
2.) If your target computer is part of another domain than the one you are currently working from, you'll need an account from the target domain with local admin rights.
3.) If the target part of a workgroup, use "COMPUTERNAME\USERNAME" within the User field and again, make sure that this user is local admin on the target!

To be able to analyse this in dept, I need the logfile. You can find with the menu entry "Show Logfile Folder".
Wipe all sensitive data and send me the logfile so I can investigate the issue.

My experience so far is to first start the executable as administrator. I would also get the access denied error. To connect to remote computers in my domain I need to type the hostname and include the domain suffix at the end otherwise I would get the 0x80070005. I also need to retype my domain password as well as the password auto fill doesn't seem to work. I would much rather not have the password autofill when the program launches.

      Hi Surfing Bob,

there is no "Autofill" within the password field. Only the currently logged on user will be copied into the username field. The password field is empty at (regular) start, the asterisks only placeholder. If you want to the username and/or password to be filled automatically, you have to use the commandline options. I've made a link on my desktop and edited my commandline, so that I'm able to start RPE by shortcut keys with the desired commandline.

Of course you have to start RPE as an Administrator, it is a tool for admins, but i'll check how to popup the consent admin interface, as well known by other apps (UAC). Try to built in this with one of the next builds.

      Thank you for your feedback.

      Kind regards

      Stephan
