I'm looking at running rEFIt in a lab environment and need to limit the
options available to our students.
At the moment you can disable all options via the config file, but bootable
volumes are still presented. I would like to ideally limit our user to only
being able to select bootable volumes from the internal HDD, not CDs,
External Drives or NetBoot.
If I couldn't disable the choice of these options, password protecting them
would be appreciated.

I agree, I am also looking at rEFIt for a lab environment
and this feature would be great!

I also agree with this. I'm currently looking to deploy a dual boot lab of iMacs running OS X and Win XP. rEFIt is going to be my boot controller but the one feature it is missing is the ability to lock down to just internal disks only. Bascially, I'm looking for the ability to only allow the user to choose between the OS X or Win XP on boot without having to worry about external sources such as CDs, DVDs, firewire and usb drives.
Thanks!

This is my number one desired feature for rEFIt.

I'm also wanting to deploy rEFIt in a lab environment, but I need to be able to limit the boot volume options to internal hard drives/partitions only.

I submitted a patch that allows you to disable booting from external,
optical, and/or internal devices. It does not prevent rEFIt from scanning
all devices for bootloaders, so it does not address request #1615485, "Skip
CD detection".
Go to the Patches section and look for Request ID# 1827340 - [binary and
conf file] Disable boot options from conf file
You can download the zip file. Inside is a new refit.efi and refit.conf
file. At the end of the conf file, simply uncomment the appropriate
line(s).
Don't forget to test it before you deploy!
