The volume label for a disk would be nice, or some nomenclature to signify a partition. You could call a disk "disk3Part0" "MBR" "FAT32" and use an icon for Windows.
But what I have a problem with is that sometimes I pick what I think is the right OS, and something else boots! The Mac Pro seems to be a little tricky with the way Bay 2 and 4 look alike, and Bay 1 and 3 do, too. I have seen Windows use Bay 3 before Bay 2 in its listing order, which gets to be hard to follow. Maybe rEFIt is confused, too. The icons do not seem to be in the correct order all the time.
Whenever I chose the FreeBSD icon on the refit menu on my MacPro, Windows XP booted. In this scenario, I had four disk drives installed, two Windows, one Mac, and one FreeBSD. I had to remove the other drives to boot FreeBSD.
I have chosen the Windows icon before, and the computer hung. Normally, I have found that selecting "Legacy OS" is usually better for booting Windows! I assume that the Legacy OS must mean that we are going through the MBR table somehow.
I wish there was a way to see what each icon means, whether you are referring to the partition boot table or the master boot record.
Since I installed a mirrored Windows XP onto drives in Bay 1 and Bay 2, and OS X is located on a drive in Bay 3, it is quite interesting to see what each icon boots! The only sure bet is that so far, choosing the Apple icon always boots OS X. But the more partitions available, the less sure I am of what rEFIt is going to do when I choose an OS.

This same thing happens all the time on my MacPro as well.....I FEEL YOUR PAIN....LOL
I hope they are able to get this "quirK" attended too in the future. Icons corresponding to the proper OS would be nice. I am triple booting 10.4.9, vista ult, and XP. Both of the Windows icons are the same, so it's a crapshoot every time. If I could have a different icon for each version of windwos that would actually identify each partition permanently (like osx does) that would be great.
