Good day! I have encountered a problem with EFI shell of rEFInd 0.8.4
I have downloaded "A USB flash drive image file" from your download page,
and dd it to my USB flash drive. Then I reboot Mac and try to boot from this USB drive.
From a first glance, everything seems OK: I can see rEFInd menu and booting options.
But, when I click "Start EFI Shell", it shows me the following
=== rEFInd - EFI Shell === <--- (blue bar)
Starting shellx64.efi Using load options `` _
And that's all - it hangs there... EFI Shell is broken! :-(
Tests have been conducted on Early 2011 Macbook Pro 8,2 15" i7-2720QM Boot ROM Version: MBP81.0047.B27 , SMC Version (system): 1.69f4
There are numerous EFI shells out there, and unfortunately, some of them don't work on some computers. In fact, I don't know of any that work 100% on all systems. Thus, you'll just have to try other EFI shell binaries. See here for pointers to some binaries:

You're much more likely to have luck with a version 1 shell than with a version 2 shell.
You'll have to replace the EFI shell binary on the flash drive. If you install rEFInd to your hard disk, copy the working one to it.
