Hello all,
Several years ago, I found 'rEFInd', and it helped me keep my old 2011 (High Sierra) 17" MacBook Pro out of the landfill. Somehow - I managed to get Ubuntu installed on this machine, and had this nifty 'rEFInd' menu/screen displayed on startup that allowed me to select which OS I would boot into - macOS or Ubuntu. Over the past two years, I've used this 2011 MBP very little - maybe twice? ... it has sat in a drawer, connected to the charger.
I drug it out today, and tried to boot into Ubuntu - but that failed for reasons unclear to me. In the console during the boot process, all went well for a screenful or two, and then I got several messages with the word 'FAILED' in red letters, and the boot process just died. I don't recall all of the messages, but one was for Bluetooth, another for 'sshd'... Don't recall the others, but I can dig those up if its useful.
After the Ubuntu boot failed, I selected the 'preboot' option in the rEFInd menu, and macOS High Sierra came to life. AFAICT, everything works OK: network/wifi works, Bluetooth works, all apps seem to work.
Can anyone offer any advice on what I must do to resurrect the Ubuntu Linux install? I made some rather extensive notes during this process, but I've lost them in a recent move.
Thanks,
~S
