Hi Brandon, could you be a bit more specific about the "It's not working so well" part? Does that mean it does not work at all, or do you get random errors? In any case, I don't have IIS around here, but with a little information we might be able to figure this out. regards, Markus Brandon Kohn writes: > > Hi, I'm trying to get refdb to work on a win2k server using the IIS webserver that comes with win2k. Hi, I'm trying to get refdb to work on a win2k server using the IIS = webserver that comes with win2k. It's not working so well. Has anyone = gotten it to work this way? Thanks Brandon Kohn +377 97 97 41 51 ext. 306 (Work) +377 97 77 86 71 (Home) bl...@ma... The Maia Institute, Monaco |

Hi all the refdb-0.8.2.tar.gz archive regrettably lacked a few important scripts. The maintenance release 0.8.2a adds these scripts back so things should work ok now. I also edited the readme.txt for the manual, as I no longer ship the callout graphics. They come with every DocBook DSSSL stylesheet release, so you have them anyway if you build the manual yourself. apologies, Markus -- Markus Hoenicka hoe...@co... http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/hoenicka_markus/ |

Bugfixes: - refdbd now reads the pidfile setting from the config file - fixed some signal oddities that just happened to work on Linux and Cygwin (but not on FreeBSD) Improvements: - DocBook XML and TEI XML were added to the supported document types for generating bibliographies. A set of XSL stylesheets is available for both document types - textual citations (Miller et al. reported recently [1]...) are now supported - The CiteStyle DTD now supports month names and their abbreviations in the language required by the publication - configure options were added to simplify building on systems that put libraries into odd places - builds cleanly on FreeBSD (and runs, too) - The Makefiles were brushed up so "make dist" finally works Available, as usual, at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/refdb regards, Markus -- Markus Hoenicka, PhD UT Houston Medical School Dept. of Integrative Biology and Pharmacology 6431 Fannin MSB4.114 Houston, TX 77030 (713) 500-6313, -7477 (713) 500-7444 (fax) Mar...@ut... http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/hoenicka_markus/ |

Bugfixes: - fixed occasional crash during bibliography creation due to free() on uninitialized pointer - fixed server crash for client commands with a mandatory argument if they were called without an argument - fixed occasional "could not connect" problems when password authentication was used - fixed obscure "POSPOSPOS" output after running addstyle in refdba - fixed minor bugs in the DSSSL stylesheets for bibliography output - fixed CiteStyle XML DTD which used constructs only available in SGML - removed erroneous dependence of almost all backend output on a journalname Improvements: - refdbib now generates DSSSL files (.dsl) instead of style specification files (.spc). These DSSSL files act as driver files for the RefDB DSSSL stylesheets which in turn are driver files for the original DocBook DSSSL stylesheets. Therefore the final transformation of a DocBook document with a RefDB bibliography can now also be done with plain old Jade. - The DocBook bibliography output was slightly changed to make it smaller and better suited for subsequent SGML-to-SGML transformations. The stylesheets were changed accordingly. - A new DSSSL stylesheet performs the transformation of DocBook bibliography output into TEI bibliography output. - The web interface now allows to display additional fields in reference queries. - The log level and log destination can now also be specified verbosely on the command line and in the configuration files Available, as usual, at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/refdb regards Markus -- Markus Hoenicka hoe...@co... http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/hoenicka_markus/ |

Hi, now that a few bug reports are coming in, I thought it would be helpful to collect some information about the RefDB setup in order to spot setup or configuration problems. I hacked a shell script that you can get at: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/refdb/refdb/scripts/refdb-bug This script will create a file "refdb-bug.txt" in the current working directory and collects a plethora of information about the tools and the configuration files. Please attach or paste the output of this script to any bug report to this list if you think this information may be helpful. Suggestions for improvements are welcome, of course. regards, Markus -- Markus Hoenicka hoe...@co... http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/hoenicka_markus/ |

Hi, I just installed refdb, with no problems. Unfortunatly, whenever I issue a command using one of the refdb clients (refdba, refdbc) that should read or alter the database (eg createdb, listdb etc.), I get the following: server error: incorrect scramble string password transfer failed I've set the password on the MySQL database itself and I can log on using the mysql client, and presumably I use the same username and password for the refdb clients as I use for the MySQL database. I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to solve this. Any ideas gratefully recieved. Cheers, Ben |

Hello, I have problems with a test database (34 refs, several with abstracts). Besides spurious =B4cannot connect ..=B4 errors, the getref function prematurely terminates with an =B4out of memory=B4 error at reference ID*:30. The concrete backend doesn=B4t matter. There are a multitude of code lines where the message can come from :-( How can I trace the problem? I should mention that my debugging experience with daemon problems tends to nil. Any ideas? regards P.Herkenrath |

Hi, there are two issues: 1) bib2ris should indeed not silently drop the mnemonic keys. This is my oversight as I never use them. The short-term fix will be to import them into the U5 field like the ID field of RIS datasets. 2) What you apparently ask for is a slighly different question: whether RefDB should be able to use mnemonic keys where it now uses IDs. I guess it should, but this is simply not yet implemented. This feature needs a few changes throughout the RefDB source and will take longer to implement. I'll bump the priority of this issue a bit up in my list, but if you beat me with a patch I'll consider it, of course :-) regards, Markus Herkenrath writes: > > Hello, > I understand that a ID number is necessary > (primary database key). > I have, however, to manage several BibTeX > databases with 1000+ entries > and I wonder why RefDB discards the mnemonic keys > during import (bib2ris). Hello, I understand that a ID number is necessary (primary database key). I have, however, to manage several BibTeX databases with 1000+ entries and I wonder why RefDB discards the mnemonic keys during import (bib2ris). Personally I can remember these keys much better when writing a paper than ID numbers. Peter Herkenrath |
