Yes, clean checkout from cvs. I just figured out the problem though: it seems that make tries to run sh as the shell first, and then tries %COMSPEC% only if executing sh fails. I have sh because I have cygwin installed, and sh didn't like the \. This is kind of a problem for me because make requires sh to use the -j switch to spawn multiple processes and take advantage of SMP. Maybe I'll have to talk to the mingw guys about this.
