There was a bug in the build files used to build the released package. This issue has been corrected. New release files have been uploaded to Sourceforge. Please re-download the corrected packages. ---Brett. I've found the source of the error, and have corrected it. I am replacing the broken zip and tar files with a working version. Please delete your copy of rails-1.4.2 and re-download. ---Brett. |

Thanks Bill, this looks pretty good. There is no hurry with working this out; from my side it has always been a long shot. Feel free to experiment, otherwise I will do so over time. I suppose we'll need an extra <Image> tag in Map.xml, with attributes filename, x, y, scale. In presence of a map image, displaying all tiles with non-positive numbers (i.e., preprinted tiles) should be suppressed (except when testing alignment). Here's another attempt, as I have a copy of Adobe Illustrator, so can convert the PDF to SVG -- in theory without losing anything. Let me know if this file is readable on other systems (I've tested it in Safari and it seems to work fine). I've also removed some of the 'unnecessary' elements, such as the income track, the hex numbers (since Rails will also display them?). It's easy for me to leave things like hex-numbers on the map, if desired -- creating this file took literally about 5 minutes, so I don't mind making other versions. Note that this file is *not* my artwork: I've just taken John Tamplin's PDF and converted it to SVG. He probably doesn't mind, since he's distributing the PDF anyway, but this might be something to think about regarding other games. I can also re-draw some of the other maps that we don't have PDFs for, but they won't look exactly like the printed versions do, and this will take more time. I can take a look at displaying this in Rails, but I'm likely to be busy for about the next week, so I can't make any promises regarding timeliness. Bill |

FYI, the map works fine when I run it from Eclipse, but I did an ant build and had the same no map display issue. I have not had the need to do a build since the issues when batik was upgraded. I have the current JRE. I have the same issue in Windows. On Sun, May 22, 2011 at 5:18 PM, Scott Petersen <sc...@re...>wrote: > The map is not displaying when I open the new release. A new version of Rails is now available. This release includes preliminary work on 18SCAN, 18TN, 18GA, the Coalfields and Reading variants of 1830. Also included is several fixes to a variety of bugs as well. Files are available here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/rails/files/Rails/1.4.2/ For developers, the updated Javadoc is available here: http://rails.sourceforge.net/javadoc/index.html Thanks to everyone who helped out on this release! ---Brett. |

Thanks! First impressions: - This SVG seems to contain a bitmap only. Does it really scale? In other words, can we zoom in and out loss-free? - Inkscape and IE9 do not display anything on loading this file. Firefox 3.6 displays an error message. So I can't tell yet if this will be useful. I'm no graphics expert, but I will try to load it in Java/Swing/Batik and see what happens. (BTW from tomorrow, I will be out and probably unreachable for a week). Erik. I have also added new optional 'quantityIncrement' attributes to <Train> (in Game.xml) and <Tile> (in TileSet.xml). These attributes are not used yet, but I expect such incremental values will prove indispensable when configuring the 1825 regional kits. The corresponding 1830 XML files now contain brief comments to describe these new attributes (which could be used there as well). > -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- > Van: Erik Vos [mailto:eri...@xs...] > Verzonden: donderdag 19 mei 2011 14:54 > Aan: Development list for Rails: an 18xx game > Onderwerp: [Rails-devel] Train config changes > > I have started working on train management. I have started working on train management. For now, just a few configuration changes: 1. In CompanyManager.xml: a new tag <InitialTrain> that replaces the 'initial' attribute in <Trains>. Used in 18EU. Attributes: type, cost, tradeable. 'cost' is new, and allows configuring companies, such as the 1825 minors, with a fixed train that must be paid for at floating time. 2. Ditto, in <Trains> the attribute name 'number' has been replaced by the more appropriate 'limit'. 3. In Game.xml: in <Train>, the attribute name 'amount' has been replaced by 'quantity', for consistency with usage in similar cases. 2 and 3 have been applied to all relevant game XML files. Erik. |

Just tried this out: Roll back to the step where LPS buys the Tunn Hit undo Buy the Tunn again Click the special menu - it will let you buy the Tunnel bonus This is a convoluted process and I blame trying to play 18xx whilst at work when I should be focusing on other things, it's just a shame it's taken me until OR 7.1 to spot that I broke the game! I guess if there IS a bug here it's mostly around undo when buying privates. At a guess I would say the process that enables and disable items on the special menu isn't getting rolled back correctly. Phil, If I replay from the point just before buying the Tunnel, after a Save and Load at that point, it is OK. Buying a second Bonus token is not allowed. I don't see how you ever could have managed to do that. Has any Undoing happened around that time? Clearly Undo still has its weaknesses. Actually, don't bother investigating this, I've backtracked and worked out what's wrong. Somehow I managed to get LPS to buy a bonus bridge token from itself! Rails should prevent this but I hardly count this as critical rules enforcement and is clearly a player instigated error, Phil On 16 May 2011 15:40, Phil Davies <de...@gm...> wrote: > Something odd is happening with the bridge private > > Load up the attached game, for a start, LPS has the bridge token > showing twice in it's tokens list. Something odd is happening with the bridge private Load up the attached game, for a start, LPS has the bridge token showing twice in it's tokens list. Secondly, if you try and rewind the game back to an earlier state (try OR 1, when LPS first runs) and without even playing forward, click again on a more up to date entry in the game report log, and you will see another token get added to the list that LPS has. The latter problem isn't really that bad as it doesn't persist across saves, but it does imply an issue with the undo process. The former issue (LPS having two tokens on reload) is more of a problem - although fixable if the players are aware of it Phil |

OK, I have created ferry tiles -4007 through -4009 (the latter two are for 18GL). The stick track tiles must be specified with the pic attribute, as in 18EU. I have added the pics. But we need the other versions as primary ids to correctly define connectivity for route determination. I have applied all this to the 18Scan files, and also: - Replaced the Oslo and Helsinki hexes by preprinted 'Y' tiles, and fixed Stockholm likewise, - Fixed the upgrade rules, - Added the tile quantities. - Removed hex H15 from the map (it's not part of it). I'm considering to copy the narrow-gauge tile 77 to a new preprinted tile with a blue background. Yes, that will look like the physical game. I also notice that tiles 80-83 and 544-546 have the convoluted track rather than the stick track. I checked 18EU as an example, but I don't see a difference in how the XML is set up. I attached a patch that takes 18Scan about as far as I can take it for the time being. Here are some notes about special rules for 18Scan that I have not implemented. Perhaps they can go to the wiki--I do not have rights to edit the wiki. Could I be granted rights? Initial Auction (probably okay to just have players conduct this via email, then enter in as the 1830 auction) -Players bid for the right to buy privates for face value (also pay the premium they bid) -All bidding is in multiples of 5, minimum 0 -Once a player passes, he is out of the auction -Players may not bid higher than the cost of the cheapest private plus the bid premium -Auction winner gets Priority Deal -The player that initiates a round of passes gets Priority Deal -Cases for ISR ending -All pass before anything is purchased? Holder of Priority Deal is forced to buy something for face value, other items go to the pool, then play OR1.1 -All pass after one or more (but not all) auctioned items have been sold? other items go to the pool, then play OR1.1 -All items are sold? Play OR1.1 In all cases, play OR1.2 and OR1.2 and then SR1 (currently we have to pass through SR1 before the OR set) STOCK ROUNDS -Company floatation is based on the phase number (2/3/4) (currently float on 20%--something from 1856 to be borrowed?--though companies should float in the SR, not the OR) -Once Phase 5 begins, full capitalization upon 50% sold (other 50% go to pool) TRAIN BUYING -Currently implemented as one train per OR, but companies can also buy the next train if it is a different type -Need to implement the double sided trains (currently just the basic trains are implemented) -If company has no money, the President may chip in up to face value for train from another company FORMATION OF SJ - Immediately upon purchase of 5T -Minors close-exchange for reserved 10% SJ shares -Recheck for a new SJ President (transfer control if necessary) -SJ gets 700 plus minor company assets (trains/cash/tokens--if two tokens in one hex, one token goes back to SJ to be used later--6 tokens total) -SJ always starts at 100 -SJ operates in the next OR if 50% of it's shares are out of the IPO. Train Revenue (lots of work to do here, probably need to stick with manual revenue calculation) -5E and 4D cannot score Kiruna -May only count off-map if tokenend -Must run for at least CMV to advance, double jumps are possible Privates -Not sellable to players, but special powers are transferrable to company Ferry (two tokens): +20 for routes via ferry Permanent Token cost is 20, pay to owner (player), owner chooses whether to sell Unbought tokens upon phase 5 go to pool Minors can buy tokens, if two go to SJ, extra token goes to pool, Tokens in the pool may be purchased from the bank Mine (one token): +50 to run if run to Kiruna (only one bonus may be used per operating turn) buy for 50 Pay player owner before Phase 5 Pay bank if bought from pool Private closes upon purchase Token is permanent Token to pool if closed without purchase ZRC: free Copenhagen terrain, closed when DSB buys train MINORS Bank pays 10 to the owner in any OR in which the company earns no revenue Starting capital is face value Destination Run for minors: -Perform bonus run immediately upon connection to destination -Perform bonus run in turn order from current company -Bonus runs lost if not taken 1. may (not required) place extra token in destination (free) 2. operate trains--normal run +80 (80 if no trains) 3. pay dividends 4. okay to place bonus even if intervening minor cut it off, okay to place on yellow--put to side, if is green and full--no token BANKRUPTCY -All player assets go to the pool (inclduing President's Certificate if no one can take it) -Transfer presidencies if necessary -Keep playing -All but one go bankrupt? Remaining player wins. ENDGAME SCORING Privates do not count toward final score (I think the other ones that don't count are likely already implemented properly) |

I think that is a good solution, provide an error informing people of what is missing and either present a box requesting that information or popup the config window and point them in the right direction.
