You're close, I think, but Linux is sadly missing a tool that compares with
DVD-Shrink for Windows. It will read a DVD-9 and "shrink" it to fit on a
DVD-R without re-encoding. So it is quick and the quality is very high.
I'd suggest you look at it and try it out for ideas to your software. It is a
freeware download you can find with Google.

I think Linux needs that kind of program too...in fact that's the only
reason why I still use windows at all. but this is a completely different
type of program.....not only that but DVD-Shrink is freeware not open
source.
