I changed your subject line, as it looks like this is a new topic.
(Furthermore, I think this is a question for the quickfix-users list,
and not quickfix-developers.  This list is for people working directly
on the QuickFIX code, not for people using it with other applications.

Anyway, I think the function you're looking for is:
bool FieldMap::isSetField (const FieldBase &field) const
(Message class is derived from FieldMap)
