Followup:
Upon closer inspection I guess it doesn't look like a "math" error.  It
looks like the tile is intentionally blended at the edges to wrap around
on itself so each edge has a blended hint of the opposing edge.

If that's the case, this is a feature, not a bug, and as such is somewhat
troubling.  Any advice?
