The thyristor can be represented as a combination of two bjts.  It is a
pnpn device.

  anode: emitter of pnp
  cathode: emitter of npn
  gate: base of npn == collector of pnp

Thus the zener-diode is not part of the thyrister but necessary part of
the sawtooth generator.
