Expire headers

Every time I update my newsgroups, all posts are downloaded for the last 6 months. No matter what I try in settings it still occurs. I've tried:

    1. Expire All under Article Retention
    2. Setting Default Retention Period to 1 day
    3. Deleting all articles once they've loaded
The date expiry last run is today, but Quban still downloads all headers for the last 6 months, even those I've marked as read.

It only happens for a couple of newsgroups, which happen to be the largest in terms of headers, I don't know if that's relevant.

    Any ideas?

      Hi Greg,

Can you go to the newsgroup needing update on the 'Subscribed Newsgroups' tab and right click on the group. If you select 'Group Management' from the menu it should present you with a window showing the server High Water mark (HWM) and Low Water Mark (LWM) for this newsgroup and your local HWM and LWM for the group.

Whatever you do for expiry shouldn't move your local HWM. If you then select 'First/Next' and enter say 10000 you should only download the next 10000 article parts for that group (and your local HWM should increase by 10000).

Can you give this a try, noting the HWM values, and let me know what's happening.

      Thanks,
      Martin

    Martin,

I'm not sure if I did it correctly, but the High Water Mark local numbers aren't changing. The server marks are 0/0 and the local marks are 3952498 for both Low and High.

Basically I'm looking into a new group, and I want the software to download all headers once, mark them as read, and start new from there just downloading the last day's data.

    thanks.

      Hi Greg,

If the server marks are both zero can you click on the 'Refresh' button to the right of this display.

In 'Get Article Parts' the 'From' button should then display the part range from your local HWM to the server's current HWM.

Clicking on the 'Get' button will start to download the headers.

You should then be able to open the newsgroup and mark all articles as read - then repeat as often as required.

All of this is currently being re-written for version 0.6.0 due out in April.

      Martin.
