I tried "export CPPFLAGS=-I /usr/local/include/boost-1_31" but then
another error came up relating to linking to one of the libraries.  Doing
"export CPPFLAGS=-I /usr/local/include/boost-1_31 -L /usr/local/lib" did
the trick.
