Hmm .. I remember such an issue that happened with Rosegarden, too. If I remember correctly it could be fixed as well by using a style different from GTK+ in Views -> Options -> Style. Hi, problem solved: It was a problem of qt 5.7.0 not supporting old gtk themes. After installing Archs "qt5ct" package and setting QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qt5ct in /etc/environment it works now. I wonder, why the dialogs of qjackctl and qsynth worked, though. Maybe it's because they use custom dialogs and not file system dialogs... -- Orm Am Samstag, den 19. Hi, I just found out that the program is incapable of opening *any* file dialog so I could imagine something is wrong with the interaction of the program with the windowmanager (see detailed report below). -- Orm Am Samstag, den 19. November 2016 um 12:19:46 Uhr (+0000) schrieb Rui Nuno Capela: > please grab the latest git head and build/compile for debugging, > ./configure --enable-debug ... && make > then, grab and post the gdb stacktrace that gets dumped on standard > output console when a segfault happens. I recompiled with latest git and --enable-debug set. Unfortunately, like with the previous compiled version, the program just freezes, but doesn't segfault, so no stacktrace is dumped to the console. I can only quit the program by hitting ^c. > also, does it happen only when importing one particular midi file or > does it crash on any you throw in? It freezes before opening the file dialog. It also freezes for any other file dialog. Below is the Terminal output of the program up to the point where it freezes. Hi Rui and all, I might be dumb here, but - in the past, I could simply select a couple of notes from a MIDI clip editor window via the mouse, do Ctrl-C to copy and Ctrl-V to paste, and the notes would appear "glued to the pointer" so that I can position them and then (via mouse click) paste them to a new position. With 0.7.9.39 (built on Nov 10th), this doesn't seem to work - while Ctrl-C seems to do "something" (at least the selected notes are being de-selected), Ctrl-V has no visible effect. Also, Paste Repeat doesn't seem to do anything either. Now I wonder whether it's just me, or whether it's actually a bug. I even tried moving my current ~/.config/rncbc.org/Qtractor.conf out of the way in case it contains some old/incompatible config settings, but to no avail. Any idea? Thanks, Frank |

Hi, as an update: I just compiled qtractor 0.7.9 from the latest sources on my Arch Linux system. Everything compiles fine and qtractor starts up, but this time when I try to import a MIDI track, qtractor freezes with the menu entry highlighted rather than segfaulting. Hi, after upgrading my Arch Linux distribution yesterday, qtractor imediately segfaults when trying to import MIDI files. I also filed a bug report on the Arch Bugtracker as it might be unrelated to qtractor itself. The versions: [orm@T460s-orm ~]$ qtractor --version Qt: 5.7.0 Qtractor: 0.7.9 Below is the end of the output of "strace qtractor" up to the segfault. According to http://lv2plug.in/ns/ext/time/#beat, beat should be a double, not a long. Also it appears that it should contain the total beat count, since there are time:bar and time:barBeat for the other purpose. |

Hi David, I posted this reply to qtractor devel, too. Hi qtractor devel subscribers, hi Rui, there's a thread at Ubuntu Studio users, https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-studio-users/2016-September/thread.html#start and I'm unable to help anymore. What you are doing is the same as just not quantising, since changing from bars to time doesn't improve the MIDI resolution. This is done by increasing the ticks per quarter note. I don't know if Qtractor allows to change the value for ticks-per-quarter-note, but it anyway most likely would be unimportant, since nearly all PCs suffer from that much MIDI jitter, that even an Atari ST and even a C64 with less ticks-per-quarter-note are closer to what you played, due to quasi zero MIDI jitter. Regarding the tempo changes it will be inaudible, if it starts a few ticks before or after the note on event, while the exact position of the note on event, indeed is important, but unfortunately getting rid of MIDI jitter is impossible with many PCs. IOW simply keep bars and just don't quantise. There shouldn't be a difference to choosing time instead of beats. Again, to get a higher resolution you would need to increase the ticks and when doing this, you shouldn't expect that your PC has that good hard-real-time for MIDI, that the jitter doesn't affect your recorded playing. However, as already pointed out earlier, better send a request to the coder at the qtractor mailing list. I already provided the link earlier in this thread. Regards, Ralf |

Qtractor 0.7.8 - The Snobby Graviton is out! ------------------------------------------- So it's first solstice'16... The world sure is a harsh mistress... yeah, you read that right! <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Moon_Is_a_Harsh_Mistress">Heinlein's Moon</a> have been just intentionally rephrased. Yeah, whatever. Just about when the UK vs. EU is there under close scrutiny and sizzling winds of trumpeting (pun intended, again) coming from the other side of the pond, we all should mark the days we're living in. No worries: we still have some feeble but comforting news: Qtractor 0.7.8 (snobby graviton) is out! Nevertheless ;) Qtractor [1] is an audio/MIDI multi-track sequencer application written in C++ with the Qt framework [2]. Target platform is Linux, where the Jack Audio Connection Kit (JACK [3]) for audio and the Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA [4]) for MIDI are the main infrastructures to evolve as a fairly-featured Linux desktop audio workstation GUI, specially dedicated to the personal home-studio. Change-log: - MIDI file track names (and any other SMF META events) are now converted to and from the base ASCII/Latin-1 encoding, as much to prevent invalid SMF whenever non-Latin-1 UTF-8 encoded MIDI track names are given. - MIDI file tempo-map and location markers import/export is now hopefully corrected, after almost a decade in mistake, regarding MIDI resolution conversion, when different than current session's setting (TPQN, ticks-per-quarter-note aka. ticks-per-beat, etc.) - Introducing LV2 UI Show interface support for other types than Qt, Gtk, X11 and lv2_external_ui. - Prevent any visual updates while exporting (freewheeling) audio tracks that have at least one plugin activate state automation enabled for playback (as much for not showing messages like "QObject::connect: Cannot queue arguments of type 'QVector<int>'"... anymore). - The common buses management dialog (View/Buses...) sees the superfluous Refresh button finally removed, while two new button commands take its place: (move) Up and Down. - LV2 plug-in Patch support has been added and LV2 plug-ins parameter properties manipulation is now accessible on the generic plug-in properties dialog. - Fixed a recently introduced bug, that rendered all but one plug-in instance to silence, affecting only DSSI plug-ins which implement DSSI_Descriptor::run_multiple_synths() eg. fluidsynth-dssi, hexter, etc. Website: http://qtractor.sourceforge.net Project page: http://sourceforge.net/projects/qtractor Downloads: http://sourceforge.net/projects/qtractor/files - source tarball: http://download.sf.net/qtractor/qtractor-0.7.8.tar.gz - source package: http://download.sf.net/qtractor/qtractor-0.7.8-26.rncbc.suse.src.rpm - binary packages: http://download.sf.net/qtractor/qtractor-0.7.8-26.rncbc.suse.i586.rpm http://download.sf.net/qtractor/qtractor-0.7.8-26.rncbc.suse.x86_84.rpm Git repos: http://git.code.sf.net/p/qtractor/code https://github.com/rncbc/qtractor.git https://gitlab.com/rncbc/qtractor.git https://bitbucket.org/rncbc/qtractor.git Wiki (on going, help wanted!): http://sourceforge.net/p/qtractor/wiki/ License: Qtractor [1] is free, open-source Linux Audio [5] software, distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL [6]) version 2 or later. Hi, I don't understand what exactly you men with the "starting shell". Does less ~/.xsession-errors show any Qtractor related error messages? Are there any relevant messages in Qtractor View > Window > Messages ? Consider to post the output of: cat /etc/issue/;qtractor -v;uname -a;jackd -V Are you using pulseaudio together with jackd? If so, consider to run jackd without pulseaudio. Are you using rtirq or something similar? If so, post the status. Consider to post the output of aplay -l;arecord -l;amidi -l and what jackd settings you're using. Did you start jackd and qtractor in a terminal? If you are doing this, do you get any related output? OK, the investigation is ongoing, I narrowed it down to a MIDI track with a ZynadSuFx (MIDI channel 10) then Robin Gareus's "4 bands Parametric eq stereo" and then a aux send gizmo to a reverb bus. When I take the Eq out AND save AND quit AND reaload (we private detectives are paid by the hour for a reason ;p) it plays smoothly anew. Thanks for you attention :) PS - Yes, you understand right, I'm working with a friend (a bonafide sound engineer) on a common Qtractor session, between Paris and Casablanca, with a synced session directory, how cool is that? At first it was weird, we did not hear the same thing at all.. And today it somehow stabilized... Life in the free world is a wild ride :) On 06/06/16 12:06, Yassin Philip wrote: > Linked here > (https://framadrop.org/r/rTdz7G5_aH#PkFaWVQBz0PCz70lRVf0NrPrwu8YIA7GcAYledl+uj4=) > is the session file.
