a qtractor template is just a session that disregards all audio/midi
content ie. clips, files, automation, etc.: all other structural
elements are preserved eg. tracks, buses, connections, controllers, etc.

you may save any session as a template (.qtt suffix) but as said any
session with or without timeline content may serve as View > Options...
> General > New session template--that should do it as "best practice" :)
