It doesn't comply with the MIDI standard. If a musician wants to live record and play back the MIDI recording, splitting a track not necessarily does the trick. Some sounds require to do the program change at a well-defined position in the time line. For example, the DX7 factory preset ST.HELENS requires a program change to the factory preset EXPLOSION. A split track, one for ST.HELENS and another for EXPLOSITION won't work, since you need to play one note and do the program change. Let alone program changes to immediately stop e.g. a vintage delay, for example of a SPX 90 II. |
