    Dear users; Yes, compiling or running QtGrace v0.2.7 on Mac OS X with an Apple-Silicon-Processor is problematic. I had to include some changes to work. Then open a command-line "Terminal" and go to the directory xaa and xyb are. Then type cat xaa xab > QtGrace_v027a_Qt6_universal.zip This should generate a zip-file.     OK, thanks. I copied that to .Xdefaults and added a soft link to .Xresources, but it did not increase the size of the buttons and menu. I tried resetX and restarting the computer, but that did not work either. How can I tell if I am using an X11 based GUI?

    Thanks for the reply, Andreas. As I said, I am not a software engineer per se, and I don't know much about windowing systems. I understand that Motif is old and unsupported, but xmgrace still runs on my newer Ubuntu Linux machine. I guess I should try QtGrace, but I will need detailed instructions.     Dear Russ Paielli; I am the developer of QtGrace. I do not know much about the current status of xmgrace, but my impression is that there is no active development and there has not been one since 20 years or so. xmgrace uses the motif-library for the dialogs. The motif-library is also very (!) old and is not supported by current operating systems. The usual alternative is lesstif, but in my experience the support is getting worse. Therefore probably the problems concerning the buttons and menus....

    Sorry if this post is a bit off-topic, but I am just trying to get a better idea of the status of xmgrace. The GRACE website seems to be mothballed, so I am trying this site. I may eventually use QtGRACE, but at this point I am just trying to continue using xmgrace. I am a NASA engineer, and I have been using xmgrace for perhaps 20 years or more for my work on air traffic management. I am not a software developer per se, but I do some development in Scala in support of my own ideas and research....

    @andwin concerning the compilation errors. In Fedora 42 GCC 15 is used, which switched to C23 standard by default. Legacy yacc files have to be compiled with C17 standard, otherwise they won't pass the stricter checks of new standard. I implemented this in CMake in my fork but I don't know how to enforce the standard in qmake (should be a matter of setting a compiler flag). There is also a problem in server.h with incorrectly placed include guards leading to multiple definition errors (also fixed...

I have done modifications to QtGrace regarding the storage locations for files QtGrace needs on runtime to fit with the linux-filesystem better. But unfortunately I have not been able yet to generate rpm-files. People say they have been successfull, but I have not been able to reproduce their results. Often I had problems getting the newer Linux-distributions to run properly in the first place....

I got rather far, but the compilation failed due to multiple errors in pars.c (or pars.yacc): "too many arguments in function..." I do not understand this. I never got this error before and I did not change anything and as far as I can see the number of arguments is correct. Did you encounter similar errors?     Dear @andwin thanks a lot for your reply! Maybe you can look at the issue, which I reported in 2023 concerning the absence of any antialiasing in KDE? (https://sourceforge.net/p/qtgrace/discussion/1358965/thread/ecd4b996fe/) This issues still persists now in Fedora 42 KDE and I suspect that it is somehow related to Wayland vs. X11 but I don't have enough knowledge to localize it. Also, I've recently made a fork of QtGrace on github for myself that uses CMake instead of qmake and compiles with Qt6...

The main issue is, that I do not have urgend need for any improvements myself and that noone has asked about improvements for a long time. Therefore: What is there to do? Main issues for me are Qt6 currently because some things do not work as with Qt5. Apart from that I am still trying to get 64bit-versions of the pdfHaru-library and the fftw3-library.     Thanks for quick reply! I don't see any antialiasing settings in the printing dialog and the general preferences of QtGrace. I have "Qt fonts" and "symbol fonts is special" selected, but I don't see any switch for antialiasing. It is also weird that the preferences dialog is displayed normally, but the color selection pop-up is not antialiased (attached), so I gues that something is definetely wrong. The KDE uses custom color scheme, but the widget style is a standard Breeze, so I wonder what can...

    Dear Semen Yesylevskyy; the antialiasing is usually done internally. I don't think it is a KDE-issue. I can not test it at the moment, but I would suggest you check the settings for antialiasing in the preferences and in the printing setip dialog. Sometimes the antialiasing setzings get lost.     First of all, I'm QtGrace user for many years and I want to thank a lot for this fascinating software! I recently switched from Linux Mint to Fedora 38 KDE and suddenly there is no antialiasing of fonts and lines in QtGrace (see screenshot). I've deleted the .ini file and recompiled QtGrace with no effect. Is this a Fedora-specific bug? It looks strange because this is KDE editiion and all othe Qt apps work flawlessly. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Download them and open a terminal use a command like cat xaa xab > test.zip and unzip the new file. This is a preview version of QtGrace that should work on Apple Silicon. The error-message: "[Error] Too many ticks ( > MAX_TICKS ), autoticking" occurs usually, when you have a X- or Y-axis with more then 256 tick-lines along the way. MAX_TICKS=256 is hardcoded into QtGrace. In the axis-Properies-dialog you can set start and stop and major-spacing. For example if you have x-start=0 and x-stop=1 and major-spacing=0.2 you get 6 ticks (0/0.2/0.4/0.6/0.8/1.0). If you...

    Dear Sait Umar; I wanted to respond earlier, but I also wanted to test the current sources on Fedora. Unfortunately I was unable to install Fedora 37 properly in a virtual machine. I don't know why: at first everything looks ok, but as soon as I try to install new software packages nothing works as intended and as soon as I restart nothing works at all any more. Maybe I try again somtime, but I don't feel that I have so much time to waste (there is a reason I am not a big fan of linux anymore...)....

    Hi, sorry for the late response. It would be good to get the latest version you have. Since in April I willl be updating the computers to Fedora 38 with libharu 2.4.3, it may be best to wait until then to test things again. I will also play with not mappinng the fonts.     Dear Sait Umar; If it was a long time ago you probably got v0.2.7 and not v0.2.7a. There should not be a big difference - I do not know at the moment whether I changed anything concerning the pdf export. The postscript or EPS export is based on the original system from xmGrace/Grace and is therefore capable of exporting everything very well. The pdf export is based on the Haru-pdf-library which as far as I know is not able to create fill patterns (therefore there is solid-fill between sets only)....

    Dear Sait Umar; I was able to see the beta-letters in the legend in the pdf on you orignal post at the top (tested on Mac OS X). Yes, the 0.2.7a-version is not in the official release files. It is in a comment in the requested features forum. Did you compile v0.2.7 yourself? I will try reproducing what you did in Fedora to see whether this is a Fedora-specific issue. Best regards andwin

    Thanks for the response! I now see the reply box..... I am Fedora Linux 37. Using Qt5. As far as qtgrace I do not see the 0.27a in the files on sourceforge. The About under Help is showing 0.27. The libharu library in Fedora 37 is 2.3.0. It looks like Fedora 38 (coming in April( will have version 2.4.3. One other issue on the plots I sent you was that the greek letter beta was not showing in the legend. I am also attaching the source file for the plots. Thanks!

The only problem I noticed is that there is no fill pattern between the two sets (just a solid blue filling). The same thing happens when I export the pdf without Haru directely via Qt. The reason is, that the Haru-library is used internally by Qt as well - and the Haru-library is unable to generate fill patterns. The second problem...

    Dear Sait Umar; Please have a look at the entry about the Haru-pdf-library in the QtGrace-Extensions (Help->QtGrace-Extensions inside QtGrace). You should get a library for Haru in the QtGrace-download. You usually just have to tell QtGrace in the Preferences where to look for it and to activate it. Then you have to use the output-format pdf(haru) instead of the usual pdf. If you have problems activating libharu, let me know (there are still combinations of the librarty and of the operating system...

I never changed anything in these files (as far as I can remember) because I only use the qmake-command and make inside the src-directory.     Dear Germán; Yes, you get a qtgrace.exe that should work like the xmgrace executable on Linux. It should also contain all the non-gui command-line capabilities of xmgrace. I do not use these and therefore do not test them extensively. The command-line options should work. You should be able to create plots with batch-files just like xmgrace.
