We have a large changing file 190gb+ with a foldername that changes every time it runs (the file is from windows server backup). Is there a way to copy only the changes and not delete it and copy it again because that takes forever to do

Our backup usually takes max. 1 hour but since we reinstalled the server and set up a new task it takes 5+ hours. Any suggestions what the problem is?

Might be related to -z argument, use --compress-level=0 and check if it works.

For systems that don’t support compresssion, and QtdSync uses compression by default with no way to turn it off. I know you can append --compress-level=0 to your Global rsync options, but that seems too comvoluted for such a simple option. Also there is no way to actually find this is the problem, I only realised I need it because I used DeltaCopy previously and stumbled onto it when configuring. I'm using an ARM router and for some reason compression is not supported (old version I presume).

Happy new year 2020. I only want to say... we are still loving qtd sync und use it. Even after arround 6 years without updates. Sounds crazy, but it is still working. :-) But active developement would be great, to be sure it will run with future Windows 10 updates :-) So Thomas, would be nice to see you coming back to qtdsync again. best regards Manni

Entering --compress-level=0 in the expert settings completely overrides -z compression for all files. Now speed increase was around 5 (55 Mb/s) for my setup. Still half of what is possible with manual copying. But still.

Mucked around a bit more. To prevent file compression at least for some files go to expert settings and add: --skip-compress=tib This prevents compression of .tib files, for example. Speed increase was around 3.5 for my setup.

Since qtdsync uses compression by default (-z parameter), initial copying of large files is is dead slow. I have not found a way to get rid of this -z parameter. It can not be overridden in the expert settings. I therefore usually copy large files manually to the qtd target directory and thereafter let qtdsync do its job.

But qtdsyc is showing a speed of only 17 MB per second and it takes soooo long till a third third backup (with versions) with qtdsyc and only 12 GB changed files is finished. It is as if qtdsync is taking me back to the past of slow USB 2.0 speed. Do you have any idea how I can get the normal USB backup/copying speed with qtdsync? I use two tablets for music activities. Sicher kann man es verbessern, aber gerade da einige es immer noch nutzen, obwohl sich schon Jahre nicht mehr ändert, zeugt denke ich davon wie gut die Idee ist, eine GUI um rsync zu bauen. Hi Thomas, I've been using qtdsync for years and I'd like to say huge a thank you for it. I've found a few bugs with it and I was wondering if you'd ever consider updating it to newer version to take some of the bugs out? I find that the scheduled backup doesn't always work. I have it scheduled to backup every day but sometimes I open up qtdsync and it says that it hasn't backed up for 2 or 3 days. Not sure why this is. Sometimes I have to do a manual backup to get the schedule going again. On windows...

Hi, Tested it with different rsync-server; same result. It seems that QtdSync changes the folder name when generating the rsync command line. Does not happen when copied to another drive on same PC. BTW does QtdSync generate a log file somewhere? Greetings, rhj

Blanks in folder names are changed to underscores in destination directory. E.g. "This is a folder" in the source becomes "This_is_a_folder" on the destination server. That is an unwanted behaviour. I there a parameter switch or work around? Greetings, rhj

Rsync is a Windows program, it does not know anything about NTFS attributes and Windows access rights. Use the icacls command manually or in a script to save the ACL in a separate file to a synchronized folder so that you can later restore the ACL if necessary. In addition, there is a robocopy program on Windows that works in a way similar to rsync, only it does it better and more correctly than rsync, now obsolete, but unfortunately only on the mounted disk.
