I downloaded MacOSX-OggVorbis.sit and unstuffed it. I got a .qtx file. It's got an OS 9 icon and a short file name.

Where do I put this file to take advantage of the Vorbis extension? The only thing I found that looked promising was the /System/Library/QuickTime folder, but that was locked. I didn't want to log in as Administrator, and besides every file in that folder is named Something.component.

    What am I missing?

      This is the false path!

The oggvorbis.qtx must moved to the following path:

      /Library/QuickTime

      not System/Library/QuickTime !!!!!

      good luck

Ah HA! You're right. Works in QuickTime like a charm.

      Thank you!

I've dowloaded Win32-oggvorbis.  Can someone tell me where I should put this file. Would the QtFileLib be the right place?  Would appreciate any help.  Thanx.

Just remember, there are 3 possible positions for this.

/System/Library/Quicktime : Is where quicktime installs his components. I strongly suggest you do NOT tinker with this. Theres really no point in doing so.

/Library/Quicktime : This is where you should install the codec if you are on a machine with only 1 user or on a machine with multiple users who should all be able to use the codec

/Users/[homefolder]/Library/Quicktime If you have a machine with multiple users and you only want 1 user to be able to use the component.
