#1073 mpris error: ERROR mpris::failed_to_load_player_name

When trying to use qmmp with the mpris-scrobbler, it throws the following error:
ERROR mpris::failed_to_load_player_name: This message iterator must have variant type

I have filed a ticket with their upstream here:

If I start qmmp and then start the mpris-scrobbler daemon, everything appears to work fine. However, if the mpris-scrobbler daemon is already started, it throws the error.

This problem isn't occurring with other packages, such as juk, elisa, etc. that also work with mpris, so I thought I'd ask if you might know what is going on. Thanks!
