Sounds a bit like the fall of the occident ;) No, seriously, I do not see that. There is no plan to withdraw the source code of QLandkarte GT. Nor do I think it is possible. Thus there will be always an open source solution. What you talk about is someone building binaries. That might be dropped if no one volunteers. But it's not a task anyone else couldn't pick up. Right now QLankkarte GT is still part of all major distributions. So it's not yet an issue anyone has to worry about. A more realistic scenario to worry is Garmin dropping support for the old, known format. This will be a real problem, because Garmin is not open source. Anyway, if someone feels like it I would suggest to create a stand alone application that displays the map with it's tile boundaries and allows you to select tiles. Large parts of the necessary code can be scavenged from the QLGT code. I still fight with my weaker self to do the same for the referencing part of QLGT. But so far the need is too low. Oliver |
