Hi Davide, the world has changed since the QLandkarte or Mapsource times. Garmin's GPS units are able to handle several IMG files. There is no need anymore to combine everything into one large file, or to build micro-maps just for the next tour. The same applies to QMapShack. It is able to display several maps at a time. In the past I had to explain how to install these map file collections over and over again. For some users finding the base map was a challenge close to impossible. In parallel most map authors started to provide their maps as a single IMG file. That was triggered by Basecamp dropping the tile selection/map creation (It's now a standalone app). And it's very easy to install these IMG files in Basecamp. You just need to have the map on your device. >From the point of view of most users having one file per map is much easier than to fight with a plenty of files. They can install the map by simply copying the file into a designated folder. They can use the same file for their device as well as for their PC map application. Thanks to modern GPS units and cheap SD memory without much limits. So for good reasons the majority of map authors and users seem to prefer single IMG file over a collection of multiple files. And I agree with them. It's much easier to manage maps if they are on a file per map base. The major flaw of Garmin's TDB format has always been the missing definition what tile to choose as base map. Either you have to select it manually or you have to provide an installer for the map. I don't know why OpenMTBMap still clings to the old ways. But if you prefer it that way you either accept the additional step to create an IMG file, or you stick to QLandkarte GT. This is still working software. As an alternative you can give Basecamp a try. After all with a MacBookPro you can use Garmin's software. (Let's do not forget: The whole exercise exists just because there is no Garmin app for Linux) Or you start to accept the new concepts. I dropped a complete Europe map as Garmin map since a long time. I love traveling. But I am not everywhere in Europe all the time. In fact most of my travels are limited to DACHI. So I do have a Garmin map covering that area and I update this map from time to time. Above that map I have high detail raster maps for the mountain areas. And below all these maps a TMS map covering the complete world. If I travel outside the usual range, e.g. France or Spain, I create another IMG covering that area or try to get a raster map. And of course the usual (in-)famous last words: If someone really needs it and volunteers to port and maintain the code he/she is welcome.
