Greetings everyone! QjackCtl 1.0.4 (early-spring'25) is released! QjackCtl [1] is an aged yet modern, not so 'simple' anymore, Qt [2] application to control the JACK [3] sound server, for the Linux Audio [4] infrastructure. Change-log: - Fixed command line parsing (QCommandLineParser/Option) to not exiting the application with a segfault when showing help and version information. - Graph: force an actual complete refresh on main View/Refresh..., especially when changing the color theme palette on-the-fly. Hi everyone! QjackCtl 1.0.3 (autumn'24) is out! QjackCtl [1] is an aged yet modern, not so 'simple' anymore, Qt [2] application to control the JACK [3] sound server, for the Linux Audio [4] infrastructure. Change-log: - Long missing D-Bus method slot added: "reset" (dbus-send --system / org.rncbc.qjackctl.reset). - Graph: Node reference positioning changed to the top-left corner, improving the base snapping-to-grid perception. - Prepping up next development cycle (Qt >= 6.8) Website: https://qjackctl.sourceforge.io http://qjackctl.sourceforge.net Project page: https://sourceforge.net/projects/qjackctl Downloads: https://sourceforge.net/projects/qjackctl/files - source tarball: https://download.sf.net/qjackctl/qjackctl-1.0.3.tar.gz - source package: https://download.sf.net/qjackctl/qjackctl-1.0.3-4.1.rncbc.suse.src.rpm - binary packages: https://download.sf.net/qjackctl/qjackctl-1.0.3-4.1.rncbc.suse.x86_64.rpm - AppImage [6] package: https://download.sf.net/qjackctl/qjackctl-1.0.3-4.1.x86_64.AppImage Git repos: https://git.code.sf.net/p/qjackctl/code https://github.com/rncbc/qjackctl.git https://gitlab.com/rncbc/qjackctl.git https://codeberg.com/rncbc/qjackctl.git License: QjackCtl [1] is free, open-source Linux Audio [4] software, distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 2 or later [5]. QjackCtl [1] is an aged yet modern, not so 'simple' anymore, Qt [2] application to control the JACK [3] sound server, for the Linux Audio [4] infrastructure. Change-log: - Graph: when visible the thumb-view may now be drag-moved over to a different corner position anytime. - Session: introducing new Save session name/directory dialog. - Connections: connector line colors are now uniquely mapped on a (readable/output) client name basis. Hello everyone! QjackCtl 1.0.1 (summer'24) is out! QjackCtl [1] is an aged yet modern, not so 'simple' anymore, Qt [2] application to control the JACK [3] sound server, for the Linux Audio [4] infrastructure. Change-log: - Graph: thumb-view repositions and resizes immediately when visible. - Graph: Implement patchbay node search functionality: adds a floating text-entry field, which appears when typing in the canvas, selecting nodes that contains the typed text (maybe regular expression). - Graph: fixed a potential use-after-free issue on canvas nodes refresh and recycle. It was a struggle, but I managed to write shell scripts to do what I wanted to do. Thank you kindly. Screencast: https://0x0.st/XfMh.mp4 ``` $ cat jack_connect-renoise2reaper.sh #!/bin/bash #set -x out=$(mktemp --suffix=.out) in=$(mktemp --suffix=.in) in_out=$(mktemp --suffix=.in_out) make_list() { jack_lsp renoise :output_01 > $out for i in REAPER:in{11..28} ; do echo $i ; done > $in paste $out $in | sed '/^\t/d' | tr '\t' ' ' | sed -e 's@^@jack_connect @g' > $in_out } connect() { make_list while read -r i ; do jack_connect $i ; done < $in_out } disconnect() { make_list while read -r i ; do while read -r o ; do jack_disconnect $o $i &> /dev/null done < $out done < $in exit } if [ "$1" == "disconnect" ] ; then disconnect else connect fi $ ``` |

I will make a request to the developers of renoise. > b. use the qjackctl's Patchbay (not Connections) feature to match a > client name with a regular expression, eg. renoise[\-|0-9]* Yes, it would be ideal if we could specify and manage regular expressions in such a way that they would be connected to the inputs of the available targets in turn in the order of activation, but is this impossible? I would like to connect 8 channels to REAPER in this way. Screenshot: https://0x0.st/X9ms.png When I specify the client as `renoise[\-|0-9]*`, it only connects to 2 channels, not each of the 8 channels I want to connect to. Hi, When I start multiple Renoise, I see `renoise\-113` `renoise\-169` `renoise\-188`, etc. as client names in the qjackctl patchbay. Where are these numbers being obtained from? I want to fix the connection point, but is it possible to make this number fixed? Screenshot: https://0x0.st/XLdH.png |

QmidiCtl [5] is a MIDI remote controller application that sends MIDI data over the network, using UDP/IP multicast. Inspired by multimidicast [15] and designed to be compatible with ipMIDI [15] for Windows. QmidiCtl [5] was long ago designed for the Maemo [17] enabled handheld devices, namely the late Nokia N900 [18] and promoted to the Maemo Package [18] repositories. Nevertheless, QmidiCtl [5] may still be found effective as a regular desktop application and recently as an Android application as well. Dear List I'm more familiar with Linux, but got in touch with the macOS eco system and its idiosyncrasies because of a collaboration with a group that works with audio on macOS. Part of the software stack used in that group is QjackCtl.app and jackd. We experienced in rare occasions that there was no audio coming from soudcard input when jackd was started from QjackCtl. Everything looked normal, but inputs were silent. On the same machine, when jackd was started by Ardour, audio input was working normally. The only solution we found was to throw away the QjackCtl.app and download a new copy. Later, we traced the problem down to be related to macOS' Gatekeeper. Under certain circumstances that I'm not able to reproduce reliably, Gatekeeper fails to show a dialog to ask the user for permission when an app tries to access something like audio input, camera, file system access, etc. The app then just doesn't have access to the required resource and the user cannot do anything about it (or I wasn't able to figure out what besides re-installing the app in question). Apps that are codesigned don't seem to have this problem. So I codesigned the QjackCtl.app with an ad-hoc signature (no payed developer account involved) and we hadn't experienced this particular issue anymore since we used to codesigned version. I checked some other opensource softwares whether they use a signature and the following do: - Pure Data - OBS - UltraGrid I am kindly asking whether the QjackCtl.app provided by https://jackaudio.org could be code-signed, too. Even a simple ad-hoc signature would be very beneficial for macOS end users. They would still have to Ctrl-Click -> "Open" the app the first time they run the app (I guess addressing this requires a signature with a payed developer account), but wouldn't have to fight with Gatekeeper anymore. Thanks for consideration, Roman Haefeli |
