Same error here. If I switch to gcc 3.4.6, it says (at the
same lines as with gcc4): ISO C++ forbids cast to
non-reference type used as lvalue. The error appears both
when compiling against qt3 or qt4.

a simple fix is to move the cast out of the lvalue, which is
what is causing the error, after that it compiles fine for me
